· Fax or email the document to our player agent Kirk Ferguson: (fax number), or kferguson@fvgsa.org
Q. What is Evaluation and is it necessary?
A. Evaluations are an opportunity for the managers to evaluate the girls through various stages of the evaluation process, i.e. hitting, fielding, running, and pitching to name a few. Evaluations are mandatory, and any girl who doesn't attend is not guaranteed to be placed on a team. Please notify the Players Agent if you can't make the evaluation date. The date for evaluations is not yet set. Please check the FVGSA website for the evaluation date.
Q.
Is it mandatory that pitchers be evaluated?
A. Yes, all pitchers need to be evaluated. Even if your daughter hasn't pitched very much it is important for the league to rate her for the draft. Pitcher's are always in demand, and any girl who can pitch needs to be evaluated.

A. Players, receive a visor, jersey, shorts, socks, and a participation award.
Q. How long does the season last?
A. Typically, after the evaluations, teams are drafted and practices begin the first week of February with games starting the first week of March. Games typically run through the 2nd week of May. There is a one week break during Spring break (not two weeks) and there is a double elimination tournament at the end of the season, which starts at the end of April and goes about two weeks.
Q. How many days a week do the team's practice?
A. Teams are allowed to meet up to 3 times per week. Prior to the season, teams may practice two to three times a week. Once the season starts, practice can be held either once or twice a week depending on the game schedule.
Q. How many games in a season?
A. There are typically 13 to 14 games in a season, plus a minimum of 2 games in the post season. With the exception of 6U, all divisions play a weekday game and a Saturday game (2 games a week). The 6U division will only play one game a week, and their season is usually around 9 or 10 games with no post season play, and their games are on the weekday.
Q. How does the draft process work?
A. The draft is conducted after all the evaluations have taken place and is done by division. The only division that doesn't have players that get drafted is the 6U division. Essentially all of the mangers meet the day of evaluations to draft their teams. The order of the draft is determined by luck of the draw, and conducted in serpentine order until all of the players have been placed on teams. Click here to see the FVGSA Rules and Regulations for more details.
Q. What are the qualifications to be in All Stars?
A. The primary qualifications to be considered for All Stars is that the player is in "good standing" with the league, and that they played 51% of the season.
Q. What is expected from All Stars?
A. All Stars is a huge commitment and parents will have to sign a commitment letter to attend a minimum of 4 tournaments, plus districts, and possibly state and Nationals. Nationals are often in a different state, and parents are responsible for transportation and travel expenses to all tournaments.
Q. Does FVGSA allow Travel Ball players?
A. Yes Travel ball players are allowed in FVGSA.
Q. What equipment will my daughter need to play softball?
A. Your daughter will need cleats, softball pants or shorts, and a glove. The league provides balls and bats and helmets for community use. We recommend you buy sliding pads as well.
Q. Does FVGSA allow requests?
A. FVGSA does allow requests, i.e. carpool, however, we can not guarantee this request will be met. The main reason for this is that all girls are drafted onto a team and there is no way we can promise to keep the players together.
Q. Can my daughters play on the same team?
A. Yes, if your daughters are in the same division they have the option to play together or be placed on separate teams. If either parent is the manager, there is an exception for a daughter to be moved up with the older daughter if she is a second year player in that division. For example, if you have a daughter in 12U, and her sister is a second year 10U player, she can be moved up with the older sibling, but the older sibling can't be moved down, and this option is only available to managers daughter's. Also, if a manager's daughter does play up, she is not eligible to move down for All Stars, she would have to qualify in the division she played at during the season.
Q. What do we do if we get drafted onto a team with a manager that we've had issues with in the past?
A. Please notify the player agent (prior to the draft) if there is a manager in your division that you've had problems with and we will ensure that your daughter is not placed on that team. The reason has to be valid, and there is no guarantee that we can accommodate every request.
Q. My daughter has never played softball, what can we expect?
A. About 35% of the girls who sign up for Spring have never played softball or have limited experience with softball. At the recreation level, it is about developing and learning, but there are divisions that can get competitive. As a league we have playing rules in place to ensure that everyone gets into the game. On offense every team must bat the entire lineup, regardless if they played defense that inning. On defense, a player can't sit consecutive innings. As a parent, if your daughter is only playing outfield and only plays every other inning, please speak with your manager first, and if you don't get resolution, you can bring it to the boards attention. There is no reason, other than safety, for a manager not to have a good rotation on defense.
Q. Why are there pitching limitations?
A. We put pitching limitation on 8U, 10U and 12U to ensure that coaches are developing more pitchers, and to keep from burning a player out during the course of the season. Our goal as a rec league is to develop as many pitchers as possible. The more pitchers we develop the better quality of games the parents get to enjoy.
Q. What are the major differences in each division?
A. The following are the major rules differences in each division:
